38 by 46?

There's something about round numbers, isn't there?  To be able to say, "I've lost 35 pounds!" or "I'm exactly 200!" or "I lost 46 pounds by my 46th birthday!"  ... Well, those are all nice things to say, but not one of them is true for me.  Because I'm just that contrary :)

My neighbor really REALLY wanted me to be able to say I'd lost 46 by my 46th birthday, but as it got closer, I realized that probably wasn't going to happen.  She said she'd settle for 40, and honestly?  I kind of thought it would happen.  Well, I sent her a text this morning, asking if she could live with 38.  She said, "totally awesome.  great job." (she doesn't use capitalization in text) And I realized it IS totally awesome, and (as my husband would say), "I AM a good job!"  Ha!  So I'm down 38.  Yes, 38 pounds.  WOO HOO me :)

And I'm posting this picture for today because it makes me laugh and is filled with some rather awesome things:
birthday workout clothes
  • Proof I worked out on my birthday.  Yes, I'm that rocksome.
  • Yes, it's a bathroom pic ... because ... uh, I can't take a full-body pic without a mirror.
  • Washcloth over the shower, things hanging from the doorknob ... yes, these are the things I choose to preserve photographically.
  • Also:  crazy staring eyes. What am I looking at?
  • Not to mention the claw hand holding my phone.  Sexy.

But mostly:  I worked out on my birthday.  One walk by myself, and then one walk with my mama, who is here visiting.  Followed by the Taste of Denmark almondy baked goodness.  Because pastries for birthday breakfast are good.

I can't wait until I'm down 40, but did I mention I've lost thirty-eight pounds?!

  2. Congrats on your 38! You look so happy in your birthday pic...and you should be. You did encourage me to finally begin my walking exercise and so I started on Labor Day last week. I only got in 3 days of walking (an hour each day) but that's 3 hours exercise for the week and hopefully it is just the beginning for me.

I don't even own a scale so I don't know how much I weigh right now but I wanted a way to keep track of the days I've gone walking so I've been stamping a red heart on my big grid calendar for each day I complete my walking. I sure do hate those blank days now...I feel like I've cheated myself. My goal is to do better each and every week and if I can't or don't, then to do at least the same as the week before. But the main thing is that I've finally made that first move that I've been talking about for a long time now. It feels really good to have actually done it instead of just talking about it. This week I'm only gonna match last week but I'm proud of myself for actually lacing up those tennies and straping on that old fanny pack to put my phone in as it doesn't fit in my pocket...yet.

Thanks Ant for the encouragement and advise. I appreciate it and I love your blog...keep up the good work!

    1. Margie, I am SO happy for you! I love the idea of a heart on your calendar! It's perfect. And I totally get the feeling of, "oh dang - that day doesn't have a sticker on it!" But you are doing it the exact right way - do what you can, and when you can (starting at an hour each day is FABULOUS), and pretty soon you will MAKE a way for it to work to go more. That is one of the things that has surprised me the most - the way I am carving out time to go walking, even if it's only a half hour, or not minding that I've already showered (!), or deciding that I could live with dirty hair if it meant I had time to walk. It's amazing how quickly that mindset sets in, and you feeling sorry for the blank calendar days means you're well on your way :)

Seriously, Margie, that's awesome. Yay, you! And I love what you said: " It feels really good to have actually done it instead of just talking about it." Amen, sister!

Thanks for your kind words, friend :)

  3. Happy birthday!

You look great! (and I just noticed how more chinny your chin looks!)

But 46? Are you sure you didn't just turn 38?
